Chapter One :Chapter 1

"Shameless wretch, you deserve it!"

"Always canoodling around the village, you should have been drowned in a pigsty long ago!"

"With that bloated pig-like physique, you have the audacity to seduce men? Ugh, disgusting!"

The soft sounds of lapping waters, coupled with all kinds of unbearable curses, breach Su He's ears.

Her body sinking deeper, water gushes into her ears, a choking sensation forces Su He to suddenly open her eyes.

Crudely woven bamboo stripes fill her vision. Her body is bound tightly and a piece of cloth is stuffed in her mouth. As water patiently begins to rise over her head, a group of women in coarse hemp clothes are seen pointing and gossiping from the shore, their attire not resembling that of the 21st century at all.

Where is she?

She clearly remembered an explosion in the chemistry lab. Just as she was about to rush in to retrieve the new medicine under research, she was suddenly pulled into this.

Her head throbs painfully as unknown memories start to flood.

Su He opens her eyes, she has time-traveled...

The original owner was also named Su He, shared her name and physical appearance, but was an incredibly overweight woman nearly weighing over two hundred kilograms. Five years ago, she accidentally saw her current husband bathing and was sold off by her parents for a mere fifty taels.

But after marrying, she despised her husband for his unsightly appearance, constantly flirting with other men, not to mention her laziness and neglect for her two children at home.

Today, having been caught canoodling with Zhang Laoshan - the village's meat seller, she was bound and brought here to be drowned by Zhang's wife.

"Die, you fat pig, you're always flirting outside my house, watch how I'll teach you a lesson today!"

A woman - creased with a harsh face from the shore, picks up a large rock, ready to throw it at Su He.

"Mmm... Mmm..." Su He was completely bound, unable to move at all. If this stone hits her, she will surely die.

Although she did think that the original owner was muddle-headed, she just traveled across time and she didn't want to die.

Just when it seemed like the large stone would hit her, Mrs. Zhang suddenly lost her footing and the stone landed on the ground, "Aiyo wei!"

Su He sighed in relief.

"Who's the absolute dog who tried to hit me with a stone? Today, I want to see who has the guts to defend this fat pig!" Zhang Jiaxi was fiery-tempered, and the villagers were scared of her.

"Mrs. Zhang." A clear and stern male voice came from behind the crowd.

The villagers automatically made way, and a young man dressed in coarse blue robe steadily walked out.

"Aiyo, who would have thought it was Gu Liu

Number Six Gu

!"

Mrs. Zhang sneered, "Don't mind your little hoof, let her seduce my man every day! Today, I'm going to teach her a good lesson for you!"

"Mmm mmm mmm!" A savior finally appeared, Su He struggled under the water.

Gu Chengyun had his back to her, she couldn’t see his face, but based on his voice and demeanour, Su He concluded this man must not be bad. However, she had no idea why the original owner disliked him so much.

"I apologize on behalf of Ms. Su first," Gu Chengyun bowed, "but regarding the dunking cage, the county government expressly forbade it a few years ago, Mrs. Zhang, have you forgotten?"

The man's voice was gentle, but his words carried an inexplicable authority.

Mrs. Zhang was taken aback. The county government had indeed said something about that. The commoners were most afraid of the county magistrate, so she quickly gave a conciliatory smile, "What dunking cage? I was only joking!"

"Quick, quick, quick, hurry up and pull her up!"

Zhang's daughter-in-law turned around to hurry them.

A sigh of relief washed over Su He, finally, she didn’t have to soak in the water anymore!

“No need,” the man gently cut her off, “No need to trouble sister-in-law any further, you all go ahead, I’ll personally help her up.”

“Ah, alright!” Zhang's daughter-in-law couldn't wait to leave, and the crowd that had gathered around also dispersed.

Su He was still immersed in the water. The river smelled fishy and foul, she couldn't move at all. She could only hope that Gu Chengyun would come and pull her up soon.

But even after the crowd had dispersed for quite some time, Gu Chengyun was still standing on the shore with his back to her. It seemed like he had no intention of helping her up at all.

Could it be?

As the water rose above Su He's mouth, she couldn't help but wonder if this man intended to drown her then and there!

After all, who would want a woman who was both fat and lazy, and lived life unsteadily?

“Mmmph, mmmph…” Su He kept struggling.

The water was about to submerge her whole head. Water relentlessly entered her eyes.

The man slowly turned around. Right before she passed out, Su He finally saw Gu Chengyun’s face. Fine brows and bright eyes, long eyebrows reaching into his temple, handsome yet cold, undoubtedly an extremely handsome face, but gruesomely marred by horrific scars on the right half.

When Su He woke up again, she found herself on a hard plank bed.

The room was pitch black, with only firewood lighting from outside.

The room was bare, with a bow and arrow hanging on the cracked clay wall opposite her.

She's not dead?

And was brought home by Gu Chengyun?

Su He rolled out of bed, the abundant flesh on her stomach jiggled. She cringed, closing her eyes in disgust. Although she had changed into dry clothes, the fishy, watery smell still lingered.

Having soaked in the river for so long, it was a wonder that the smell had not gone away!

Just as she was getting up, the thumping of footsteps came from outside the room.

"She's awake! She's awake!"

A childish girl's voice followed.

Su He stepped out of the house, and outside, firewood was burning, illuminating the entire yard.

The man who had almost drowned her during the day was holding a stick, barbecuing something.

Two little radish heads were next to him, the children that the original host must have brought into the world.

Su He stood rather awkwardly at the doorway.

The aroma of barbecuing meat wafted over. The body she was in must not have eaten for quite a while, and her stomach was growling out of hunger.

But, considering what the original host had done, she was too embarrassed to approach.

Moreover, these three seemed to have no intention of acknowledging her presence.

Ah well, Su He gritted her teeth, deciding to return to sleep.

Just as she was about to turn around, a man's cold voice came over,

"Come eat."

Gu Chengyun didn't look back, only responded with a cold voice.

Su He: "..."

She hadn't forgotten that this man had just been prepared to drown her. The look he gave her just before she passed out was bone-chilling.

So, Su He felt an inexplicable fear of him.

She did not know how the original owner got along with Gu Chengyun. After some hesitation, she was too hungry and tired, so she simply swung around and walked towards him, sitting down next to the fire.

Gu Chengyun lowered his head to roast the meat, which looked like a wild rabbit that was almost ready. Fat was sizzling off the meat as it was roasted over the fire.

The firelight cast shadows on the man's face, revealing the dreadful scar on his right cheek. Su He dared not look at him.

There were two little children focused on the meat on the skewer.

Seeing the two, doll-like children, Su He's heart softened. She picked up a roasted sweet potato from the ground, broke it into two halves, and handed them to the two little ones.

"Xiangxiang, A-Ci, the meat is not ready yet. Have some sweet potato first."

As soon as she finished speaking, Gu Chengyun's movements seemed to pause for a moment, and he looked at her with deep eyes.

Gu Xiangxiang also looked at her timidly. She pursed her lips and said nothing.
